Workshop 2: It Takes a Village: Supporting Trans Youth in Our Community

Currently, trans youth and their parents are the people who are mostly taken on the labor in this region to advocate for trans rights and basic needs. This beautiful community has so much more capacity to build a brighter future for these youth here in Northern Arizona.  Join our broader community to understand issues our trans youth are facing in Northern Arizona, and what you can do to affect change in your own self, families, and communities.

Trans youth feeling seen and understood is life-saving.

In this workshop we will explore:

• An overview of what trans youth and families are facing currently
• How to talk to your kids who are not trans about advocating for their friends and classmates
• How to talk to other adults and advocate for trans youth in your lives
• How to interrupt transphobia in a caring and compassionate way that does not use shame, but opens people up to learn

This workshop is for you if…

• You are concerned about trans youth right now and want them to be safer and have more opportunities to thrive
• Your friend’s kid is trans or gender expansive, and you aren’t sure how to relate to them, but you know you don’t want to hurt them.
• Your workplace serves youth who are gender diverse (for example, transgender, nonbinary, Two-Spirit), and you feel at a loss for how to better show up for them.
• We particularly invite friends of parents who have trans kids here, extended family of trans kids, educators, business owners, health care providers, parents of non-trans kids and community leaders.

Parents of gender diverse kids are welcome to attend.

RSVP for Location: Location will be sent out a couple of days before the event for the safety for all attendees and facilitators. Location is in downtown Flagstaff for your own planning.
